Last Thoughts

The short lived days of dismal glory
are withheld in this story.
The golden days of his youth
were slipping by through the truth.
It started one October night
he fell on his death bed filled with fright.
He stayed there shaking, wondering, thinking
why he wasted his life away by drinking.
Drugs and alcohol ruled his soul
now they were beginning to take their toll.
He stole what he needed to get what he wanted.
Now all these things were here the haunt him.
The things he’d done the things he’d seen
were all coming back to him this Halloween.
He’d lied, cheated, murdered, and stolen.
Now he had no one to comfort and hold him.
He lay there fading and knew that day;
his life had always been slowly draining away.
His eyes opened but it was much too late,
he knew he could now never escape his fate.
He mumbled these words knowing it was the best he could do.
“Kids, don’t let this happen to you.”
